In order to timely prevent the adverse consequences of the annual flood of water bodies during spring floods, special mobile groups were created in the engineer regiment of the combined arms army of the Western Military District, stationed in the Leningrad Region, from among the specialists of the pontoon units of the formation.

The mobile teams have begun to conduct practical exercises, during which, under the guidance of experienced instructors, servicemen will have to improve their skills in installing pontoon crossings over water bodies and evacuating the population from hard-to-reach areas of flooded areas.

In addition, on the basis of the training complex, the military will master the procedure for using scuba gear and wetsuits, conduct training in the use of special equipment for cutting metal and concrete structures under water, and orienteering in a dimly lit space.

In addition to pontoon bridges, the established groups are armed with a BMK-460 tugboat, equipped with a powerful mechanical installation, a radio station and night vision devices, ensuring the boat can move at any time of the day.

Subdivisions of the engineer regiment of the combined-arms army of the Western Military District are annually involved in the elimination of the consequences of spring floods and water spills on the territory of the Leningrad Region. In the spring of last year, the servicemen of the compound successfully carried out an operation to establish a pontoon crossing in the village of Panozero in the Republic of Karelia.
