In his speech, a representative of the penitentiary department spoke about the use of mediation technologies in institutions of the penitentiary system.
The meeting of the coordinating council was attended by representatives of law enforcement agencies of the Tula region, the ministry of education, the ministry of labor and social protection of the Tula region, the health department, the Tula regional court, the Tula Bar Chamber, as well as ombudsmen for human rights and children’s rights in the Tula region.
The event was opened by Olga Gremyakova, Deputy Prime Minister of the Tula Region, Chairman of the Coordination Council for the Development of the Institute of Mediation in the Tula Region. She greeted those present and gave the floor to Alexander Ivanov, who is responsible for educational and social work with convicts.
In his report, Alexander Vladimirovich noted that at present, in the penal system of the Tula region, cases of using a mediation approach and technologies are used in work with minors and their families in a socially dangerous situation, as well as juvenile offenders. With this category, the employees of the Federal Penitentiary Service conduct multifaceted information and explanatory work and consultations on topics related to the implementation of conciliation procedures and mediation procedures.
During the meeting, the participants exchanged positive experiences of using mediation when working with families with adolescents with deviant behavior.
As a result of the meeting, the members of the coordinating council adopted a number of decisions, including the organization, within the framework of the program “Improving the public safety of the population in the Tula region”, training on refresher courses in restorative justice and the basics of mediation for employees of institutions of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Tula Region responsible for work with underage suspects, accused and convicted persons.
