A working meeting was held between Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexey Overchuk and Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov.
The parties discussed topical issues of trade and economic cooperation, noted the intensive development of interaction between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan.
“Our interaction in bilateral and multilateral formats is developing intensively. In 2020, Uzbekistan chaired the CIS for the first time, and during the year a number of documents were adopted that determine the development of the Commonwealth for the next decade, including the Strategy for the Economic Development of the CIS for the period up to 2030. The accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan as an observer in the EAEU was also a significant event. Together we have done a great job, the obvious result of which is the growth of trade turnover between Russia and Uzbekistan. Last year, we managed to increase the volume of mutual trade by 15.6%. Taking into account the gained pace, I am sure that the task set by the presidents of our countries to achieve a trade turnover of 10 billion US dollars is feasible, ”stressed Oleksiy Overchuk.
During the meeting, the Russian side highly appreciated the measures taken by the leadership of Uzbekistan to create comfortable conditions for Russian investors. Currently, more than 2.1 thousand enterprises with Russian capital operate in the republic’s market, the volume of accumulated Russian investments in the economy of the Republic of Uzbekistan is estimated at 10 billion US dollars.
Alexey Overchuk and Sardor Umurzakov discussed the preparation of bilateral events at the highest level. Particular attention was paid to the upcoming holding of the second meeting of the Joint Commission at the level of the heads of government of Russia and Uzbekistan.
The parties confirmed their readiness for further constructive dialogue in all areas of interaction between the countries.
