On March 16, 2021, a command-staff exercise started with the Guards airborne assault Caucasian Cossack regiment from Stavropol and an artillery regiment from Anapa of the Novorossiysk guards airborne assault mountain formation, which will be held from March 16 to March 19 this year at the Opuk training ground in Republic of Crimea under the leadership of the commander of the guard formation, Major General Andrei Sukhovetsky.

During the exercise, airborne and artillery units will march on standard equipment from the base area to the Kirovskoye take-off airfield in the Republic of Crimea, where they will load BMD-2K-AU airborne combat vehicles into military transport aircraft for subsequent landing.

Then, the personnel and equipment will fly on 7 Il-76md aircraft to the area of ​​the Okhchi-Oba landing site at the Opuk training ground, where more than 350 servicemen in full gear with weapons and equipment and 3 combat units will be dropped. BMD-2K-AU airborne vehicles, after which they will work out the capture of the control tower of the simulated enemy field airfield, with the implementation of the stage of live firing of the paratrooper battalion in the offensive.

In order to prevent the approach and deployment of enemy reserves, a tactical airborne assault will be landed from 4 Mi-8AMTSh transport and combat helicopters, as part of an airborne assault company.

In the future, the landing of a self-propelled artillery division of an airborne assault regiment from large landing ships of the Black Sea Fleet on an unequipped sea coast and marching to the area of ​​firing positions will be worked out.

Further, at the “Opuk” training ground, the subunits of the air assault and artillery regiments will work out the task of defending the sea coast from the landing of a simulated enemy amphibious assault.

During the combat firing stage, the units of the formation will inflict fire damage on the advancing and disembarking units of the simulated enemy’s amphibious assault on the defended coast from the standard armament of BMD-2K-AU airborne combat vehicles, T-72B3 tanks of a separate tank battalion, 120-mm self-propelled artillery guns 2S9 “Nona-S” and 122-mm howitzers D-30 airborne assault and artillery regiments, small arms, sniper weapons and grenade launchers and will complete its destruction.

In total, the exercise will involve more than 2,000 servicemen and 500 units of military and special equipment of the Guards Airborne Assault Caucasian Cossack Regiment from Stavropol and the Guards Artillery Regiment from Anapa, 7 Il-76md aircraft of military transport aviation, as well as airplanes and helicopters of assault and army aviation. …
