On March 9-12, in the format of a videoconference, the first meeting of the Senior Officials (SOC) of 21 APEC economies was held in the framework of the new cycle of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum. The meeting was attended by Ambassador-at-Large, SOM of Russia in APEC KM Barsky.

New Zealand, chairing the Forum, introduced the meeting participants with its vision of priorities for the current year, which correspond to the “Putrajaya APEC Development Guidelines until 2040” approved at the leaders’ meeting last November: trade and investment, innovation and digitalization, confident, balanced, secure, sustainable and inclusive growth.

The reports and work plans of the SAO Steering Committee on Economic and Technical Cooperation, the Committee on Trade and Investment and the Economic Committee were approved. The results of a series of APEC events on cooperation in the field of finance, investment, interconnectedness, the fight against terrorism, anti-corruption, healthcare, protection of intellectual property rights, the fight against illegal deforestation, free cross-border movement of individuals, the digital economy and telecommunications were summed up.

Work has begun on the preparation of the most important document for the upcoming APEC summit at the end of the year – the Action Plan for the Implementation of the “Putrajaya Guidelines for APEC Development until 2040”.

The next meeting of the APEC SAO will be held in early June.
