In the Leningrad Region, a separate special search battalion of the Western Military District, on the basis of original parts, restored the fuselage of the Il-2 aircraft during the Great Patriotic War.

During the search operations in the Leningrad Region at the sites of the crash of 18 aircraft of this type, the battalion servicemen found more than 100 parts, parts and mechanisms from which the fuselage was assembled. Among the large elements are an armored capsule, an engine, fragments of the hull, armor, weapons, etc.

“The fuselage of the Il-2 attack aircraft will be placed in the battalion’s museum and will become the basis of the memorial to the heroic defenders of the Leningrad sky. Also, the memory of all 18 crews whose planes were found will be immortalized, ”said Major Sergei Rumyantsev, deputy commander of the search battalion.

Earlier, specialists from the Nevsky Shipyard (part of the USC) returned the original shape to the parts deformed as a result of the fall, cleaning them from rust and adjusting them.
