About 20 planes and helicopters of aviation formations and units of the Central Military District (CVD) are involved in counterterrorism exercises on the territory of the Volga and Siberian federal districts.

During the final stage of the exercise, the crews of the frontline reconnaissance aircraft of the Su-24MR will provide air reconnaissance, the opening of camouflaged fortifications and objects of the simulated enemy on the ground. Multifunctional fighter-bombers Su-34, using the entire range of weapons, will work out the destruction of reconnoitered targets.

The actions of ground units, fire support from the air and the delivery of tactical assault forces will be provided by the links of the Mi-24P attack helicopters and the Mi-8MTV transport and combat helicopters.

The exercises involve the crews of planes and helicopters of the mixed aviation division of the Central Military District and a separate brigade of army aviation based in the Chelyabinsk region, as well as a separate helicopter regiment located near Novosibirsk.

The exercise is being conducted in accordance with the instructions of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee from March 16 to 22 under the leadership of the commander of the Central Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin.

The purpose of the exercise is to improve the practical skills of officials of command and control associations, commanders of formations and military units in managing subordinate forces and assets when performing tasks to eliminate illegal armed formations and terrorist groups during a counter-terrorist operation.
