Participants will have thematic online classes and meetings with experienced volunteers. The training will end with a large interactive game.
Resource center “Mosvolonter” from 22 to 27 March will hold training program “Get involved!”… It is aimed at people over the age of 14 who want to join the city’s volunteer community, participate in the capital’s events and help outreach non-profit organizations and charitable foundations. This was reported by Natalia Sergunina, Deputy Mayor of Moscow.
“Every year, the Mosvolonter Center conducts hundreds of master classes and trainings aimed at popularizing volunteering. Basic Six-Day Get Started! designed for the initial level of training. It is aimed at those who are interested in the topic and would like to try themselves in volunteering, ”said Natalya Sergunina.
During the training, participants will get acquainted with the basic principles of volunteering, learn etiquette and the structure of volunteer corps, and acquire the skills of effective communication necessary for volunteers.
This year the program will be held in a part-time format. On March 22, 24 and 26, thematic online classes will take place: listeners will talk with mentors and experienced volunteers. On other days, they will independently study the material and do their homework. At the end, participants will gather for a large interactive game dedicated to the functions of volunteers at various events.
An important part of the program is the analysis of their competencies. Novice volunteers will define learning goals for themselves, so that after completing the course, they can check which ones have been achieved. Based on this analysis, they will be able to shape their own unique development trajectory in the field of volunteering.
From the basics of volunteering to practice: what awaits the participants of the Get Involved!
On the first day of the training, at the Fundamentals of Volunteering webinar, the resource center staff will talk about who volunteers are and how to become a part of the #Moscow Volunteers team. During the interactive game “#Moscow Volunteer – what is he like?” participants will be able to create their own image of a volunteer. They will figure out what qualities volunteers should have, discuss the ethics of volunteering and the stages of preparation for events.
The second day is devoted to independent work on the material. For homework, each student will have an individual electronic notebook. For example, in one of the tasks, it is necessary to choose from the proposed cards the one that most accurately reflects the image of the volunteer to which the participant aspires. Your choice will need to be argued in the form of an essay.
On the third day, the webinar “Choosing the direction of volunteering” will take place. Students will work with mentors to analyze the attributes of each type of volunteering and determine which direction is best for them. For example, media volunteers cannot do without knowledge of graphic editors, the ability to write texts and handle a camera or video camera. In addition, during the webinar, participants will learn about non-profit organizations and foundations that support volunteering in the capital. Among them are NGOs that help people with disabilities, seriously ill children and adults, low-income families, as well as homeless animals.
The module “Volunteering at an event” will take place on the fourth day of the course. It includes topics such as the structure of the volunteer corps and areas of responsibility, the functionality of volunteers and the interaction between them.
At a distance learning session on March 26, experts will conduct a series of master classes and analyze the practices of effective communication. They will talk about active listening techniques, working with objections, and teach you how to give competent feedback. Another seminar will be devoted to working in social networks. Media professionals will explain how to properly communicate about volunteering and walk you through examples of successful accounts.
On the final day, an interactive game “Event” will take place. Participants will be able to apply new skills and try themselves as a volunteer at a given event. Also, the organizers will prepare for them a quiz “I am a volunteer” on the subject of the course.
As a result of the training, everyone will receive a certificate of completion of the basic course on volunteering “Get involved!” Those who wish will be invited to participate in city programs as volunteers.
