At the Borzya-Novaya training ground of the Eastern Military District (VVO), stationed in the Trans-Baikal Territory, the crews of modern T-80BV tanks are taking part in the earlier regional stage of the Tank Biathlon competition.

At the “Individual Race” stage, the crews of gas turbine tanks have already shown their skills in the art of driving and shooting accuracy, using the main and additional weapons installed on the tanks. Later, the tankers competed in fulfilling the standards for technical, engineering training and RCB protection.

In addition, the best crews of T-72B3 tanks from the Republic of Buryatia, Zabaikalsky, Primorsky and Khabarovsk territories, Amur and Sakhalin regions take part in the spectacular competitions.

The winners will represent the Eastern Military District at the all-army stages of the competitions.

More than 300 military personnel of the Air Defense Forces take part in the competition, over 50 units of military equipment and weapons are involved.

For reference: T-80BV is a Russian modernization of the T-80 tank, developed by Omsktransmash. The modernization includes the installation of the Sosna-U multi-channel gunner sight, which includes sighting, thermal imaging, rangefinder channels, as well as a missile control channel. The tank is equipped with a 125 mm cannon, a modified gas turbine engine, an armament stabilizer and a driver’s observation device. Improving the command controllability of the T-80BV tank is provided by the installation of an ultra-shortwave radio station “Aqueduct”. To protect against enemy fire, the vehicle is equipped with anti-cumulative lattice screens and a complex of modular dynamic protection “Relikt”. Combat weight 46 tons.
