The building in the classicism style was built at the beginning of the twentieth century according to the project of the Moscow architect Fyodor Kolbe.

The Forum Cinema on Sadovaya-Sukharevskaya Street will be restored. The architectural and artistic appearance of the historic building will be restored. Moskomarchitecture agreed on the project documentation. This was announced by the chief architect of Moscow Sergey Kuznetsov… Forum is one of the oldest cinemas in Moscow. It was opened in pre-revolutionary Russia in 1914, when cinema was just beginning to gain recognition as a new art form. The neoclassical building, designed by the Moscow architect Fyodor Kolbe, has the status of a cultural heritage site.

The specialists have already started work: they are busy reinforcing walls and foundations, as well as dismantling emergency structures.

“We carefully and carefully recreate the architectural elements and characteristics of the building, completely repeating its historical appearance. The remaining part of the Forum is planned to be made as universal as possible, intended for a cultural or public space, ”said Ilya Davydik, General Director of the company that is engaged in the restoration of the building.

In addition to the scientific restoration of the Forum, it is planned to construct a five-storey building with two underground floors. It will appear next to the cinema. The total area of the building, including underground parking for 36 cars, will be about four thousand square meters. Most of the building will be occupied by public exhibition spaces and class A offices. The internal unifying element will be a 21-meter-high atrium with a skylight on the roof.

“The building is distinguished by its fundamental simplicity and neatness against the backdrop of an expressive historical building in the neoclassical style. The facades are split into vertical strips of glazing with deep slopes, which will provide an inflow of sunlight into showrooms and office spaces. The first floor is slightly recessed and completely glazed – this gives lightness to the main volume, and also erases the border between the interior space and the street where modern landscaping is planned, ”said Sergey Kuznetsov.

Large-format glazing modules will alternate with light-colored natural stone pylons, which will serve as an excellent backdrop for the historic building. The project also provides for the operation of the roof of the new building and the arrangement of two terraces for office residents.

The architectural concept is based on an association with the Forum’s cinematic past, said Nikolay Pereslegin, a partner at the architectural bureau that developed the project for the restoration of the historic building, as well as the concept of the business center.

“The facade of the building is made of pylons rotated at different angles, which creates the feeling of an optical illusion and resembles a rapid change of frames, imitating live movement,” he said.

The construction of the business center will begin in the second quarter of 2021. And the entire complex is planned to be fully commissioned at the end of 2022.
