The infectious disease building was opened on the basis of a cardiological facility, and it was refurbished in just five days. Now the department has 135 beds, of which 92 are resuscitation beds.

For a year in the laboratory of the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine performed 1.7 million PCR studies on COVID-19. Before the start of the pandemic, only about 50 PCR tests were done here per day, and in May their number increased to 7.3 thousand. Now up to 12 thousand such studies are carried out here per day. The laboratory of the Research Institute is one of the largest in Moscow in terms of PCR tests for COVID-19.

In addition, tests for antibodies to coronavirus have been performed in the laboratory since April 2020. More than a million studies have already been completed (about five to seven thousand per day).

An infectious corps for patients with COVID-19 opened at the N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine a year ago – March 20, 2020. It was converted from cardiology in just five days. Red and green zones, new equipment, a modernized ventilation system, information signs and plates appeared here. Prior to that, the institute did not work with infectious diseases, but over the past year it managed to become one of the leading centers in the fight against coronavirus.

Doctors of the institute were the first in Russia to use thermal helium, hyperbaric oxygenation and plasma of recovered patients for the treatment of COVID-19. These methods helped to alleviate the condition of seriously ill patients and to cope with the disease faster. In just a year, almost 4.5 thousand donors donated plasma at the Transfusiology Department of the Sklifosovsky Research Institute.

Operating rooms of the converted building are equipped with modern equipment: mobile CT, new heart-lung machines, equipment for neurosurgical, endovascular, laparoscopic operations.

In addition, other departments of the institute were re-equipped during the year. The latest devices were received by endoscopists, neurosurgeons, cardiovascular surgeons, radiosurgeons, and diagnostic specialists. Thanks to this, patients with various diagnoses were able to receive high-tech treatment in Sklif this year.
