The construction works are planned to be completed by the end of the year.

Noise barriers will be installed on six sections of the capital’s highways with heavy traffic. This will reduce the sound load near the Rusakovskaya overpass, the section of the Moscow ring road (MKAD) and the Nosovikhinskoye highway in the Novokosino area, the MKAD near Pskovskaya and Doronin streets, the Riga overpass from the side of the Znamensky temple in Pereyaslavskaya sloboda, along the railway tracks at the Kuskovo station, and also along the railway tracks on the Novoandreevsky bridge.

Every year there are more and more cars in the metropolis, so it will not be possible to avoid noise. But the installation of fences can significantly reduce its level for residents of nearby houses.

“On average, the length of the fences will be about 1,100 meters. The structures on the Rizhskaya overpass (147 meters) and on the Novoandreevsky bridge (about 222 meters) will be the smallest in length. The existing noise barriers will be extended at two sites. In the area of Pskovskaya and Doronin streets, the length of the fence will increase by 516 meters, and in the area of Kuskovo station – by almost 200 meters. In the course of the work, the panels of the existing screens will also be replaced, ”the press service of the capital said.

The city is developing, and it is not always possible to build roads at a sufficient distance from residential buildings. New houses are also being built near previously laid routes. So, the Moscow Ring Road passed through a desert area, when its construction was completed, and now whole neighborhoods have been built there. And the Third Transport Ring was laid much later along the already existing urban development.

“Thanks to noise protection fences, a comfortable residential area can be created even in the immediate vicinity of highways. They protect both passers-by and local residents not only from noise, but also from road dust and dirt, as well as from harmful substances, ”the ministry’s press service added.

Noise screens are prefabricated structures. At the base there is a pile-grillage foundation (a system of piles driven deep into the ground), which can withstand heavy loads. Stands of galvanized I-beams in the shape of the letter H are installed on it, and soundproof panels are attached to them. The screen can be mounted on another already existing base, but only if it is capable of ensuring safe operation. At Rusakovskaya and Rizhskaya overpasses, fences will be installed on the retaining wall and spans.

The height of the noise barrier depends on the sound exposure level. Such parameters as the distance to residential buildings, the terrain, and the traffic load are taken into account. Based on the analysis of these data, experts have determined that the height of structures on the Rusakovskaya and Rizhskaya overpasses will be from four to 4.5 meters, and on sections along the Moscow Ring Road – about eight meters.

It is planned that the installation of noise barriers will be completed by the end of this year.

In Moscow, 70 percent of obsolete noise barriers have been replaced
