On the eve of the Day of the Submariner, at the Military Institute of Additional Professional Education of the Military Educational and Scientific Center of the Navy “Naval Academy” in St. Petersburg, submariners demonstrated practical training of actions at training complexes.
In the auditorium named after Rear Admiral L.V. Chernavin, the specialists of the navigator’s warhead worked out the algorithm of actions to prepare the submarine for battle and campaign, the skills for launching instruments and systems of the navigation complex, and also worked out the elements of the submarine’s navigation on the surface in narrowness.
Also, during the training, a modern training complex “Mosttik” was used, where the military personnel of the calculation “main command post – combat information post – navigator” of the submarine worked out the tasks of leaving the basing point in the water area of the Barents Sea, and also passed the Bosphorus from the Black Sea to the Sea of Marmara. The officers in the crew from among the trainees in practice studied the features of sailing near the coast, episodes of maneuvering to diverge from ships and vessels in the area of intensive navigation, in conditions of poor visibility, as well as in stormy conditions.
At a special training complex, as part of a submarine damage control exercise, future submarine commanders worked out the procedure in case of an emergency. Also, the trainees repeated in practice the elements of damage control actions, which are mandatory for each crew of a submarine of the Russian Navy. In simulated compartments and rooms of the submarine, the officers were in conditions as close as possible to combat conditions, with the flow of seawater under various pressures and ignition inside the room.
The submariners in the subdivision learned to seal holes using standard means: patch plasters, wedges, sliding stops and other equipment. Classes were conducted with the actual water supply to the flooded compartment.
During the training to fight for the survivability of a submarine in the event of a fire, the officers demonstrated a high level of training, in the shortest possible time dressed in firefighter suits, sealing the burning compartment and promptly completing the necessary set of measures to stop the spread of fire with further elimination of the fire source.
As the head of the Department of Combat Training and Ship Control, Captain 1st Rank Alexander Verbin, noted, “the Military Institute of Additional Professional Education of the VUNC of the Navy“ Naval Academy ”(Higher Special Officer Classes of the Navy) is one of the oldest naval educational institutions of the Russian Navy. During its existence, the Officer Classes have trained about 100 thousand officers for the Russian Navy and more than 500 officers for the naval forces of 17 foreign countries. Every year, within the walls of the Military Institute of Additional Professional Education, more than 300 officers are trained at the faculty of commanders of surface ships and submarines, as well as the faculty of flagship specialists and commanders of combat units, who graduate after completing a training cycle and leave for further service in the Northern, Pacific, Black Sea , The Baltic Fleet and the Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy ”.
The training and simulator complexes on which submarine officers are trained allow, within the walls of the Military Institute of Additional Professional Education, to simulate an environment that is as close as possible to sailing conditions in certain sea areas. After the completion of the training cycle, the sailors, according to most indicators, will be ready to operate the submarine when entering (entering) the base, when sailing on the open sea in various hydrometeorological conditions, operating weapons and military equipment, and most importantly for making the right decision quickly in any conditions.
