Commemorative events were also held on the territory of the VUNC of the Navy “Naval Academy” in Kaliningrad. Five graduates of this naval university served at the Kursk submarine and two at the Komsomolets nuclear submarine.

In Kaliningrad, the Union of Submariners of the Baltic Fleet today unites about 200 people of this profession. It is headed by retired vice-admiral Nikolai Khromov, who served on submarines for 41 years, ending his service as commander of the 14th submarine squadron.

Traditionally, in Kaliningrad near the submarine B-413, moored on the embankment of Peter the Great, a solemn meeting was held dedicated to the Day of the sailor – submariner. It was attended by representatives of the command of the Baltic Fleet, veterans-submariners, the crew of the submarine. In a solemn atmosphere, the state flag of the Russian Federation was raised on the B-413 submarine.

The exhibition “Submarine Forces of Russia”, dedicated to the 115th anniversary of the founding of the Russian submarine fleet and timed to coincide with the Day of the Submariner, has been opened at the Museum of the Baltic Fleet in Baltiysk.

At the exhibition, along with exhibits telling about the history of the submarine forces and the life of submariners, there are picturesque canvases by the marine painter Pavel Babushkin – a submarine officer of the Northern Fleet, captain of the 2nd rank of the reserve, a veteran of hostilities.

For the Baltic Fleet, the Day of the Submariner is of particular importance, because it was in the Baltic that the Russian submarine fleet was born. The best traditions of Russian submariners were developed in the Baltic Fleet, numerous heroes-commanders of submarines of the Great Patriotic War were brought up. Among them is the Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Marinesko. On January 30, 1945, the crew under the command of Captain 3rd Rank Marinesko sank the fascist liner Wilhelm Gustloff with a displacement of almost 25.5 thousand tons in the southern part of the Baltic Sea with three torpedoes. It carried about 100 submarine crews ready to continue the war at sea. This attack has been called the “attack of the century”.

Today, the Baltic Fleet includes a separate submarine division of the Leningrad naval base. The unit held ceremonial events, during which the crews who achieved the greatest success in combat training were awarded. In addition, the submariners of the Baltic Fleet are actively involved in testing new diesel-electric submarines for the Russian Navy.
