Today in St. Petersburg the military orchestra of the headquarters of the Western Military District will present a program of solemn music by the great Russian composers – Glinka, Borodin and Mussorgsky.
In the White Hall of the Polytechnic University, the military orchestra of the headquarters of the Western Military District under the direction of Senior Lieutenant Grigory Velko will perform one of the heights of Glinka’s symphonic creativity – the overture to the opera Ruslan and Lyudmila, the colorful Polovtsian Dances by Borodin and the solemn March “Taking Kars” by Mussorgsky, in the concert program will also include the colorful “Armenian Dances” by Alfred Reed. The soloists will be laureates of international competitions Alexey Yurkovsky, Anna-Maria Konovalova, Elizaveta Kharlamova, Stanislav Gorenko
The orchestra of the headquarters of the Western Military District is a musical group with great artistic traditions accumulated over a century and a half history. Military, classical, modern and pop-jazz music sounds in its programs. In 2019, under the leadership of Grigory Velko, the ensemble took 1st place in the All-Army Review-Competition of Military Orchestras in Moscow, once again confirming the title of the best orchestra of the Russian Armed Forces.
