In the Volgograd region at the Prudboy training ground, the district stage of the competition of the International Army Games ARMI-2021 of the Southern Military District (YuVO) “Tank Biathlon” has started.
The crews of the first race of the “Tank Biathlon” competition went to the start. In addition to the traditional T-72B3 armored vehicles, crews of T-90 tanks are taking part in the competition for tankers in the Southern Military District for the first time.
In addition, this year, changes have affected the competition of motorized rifle units “Suvorov Onslaught”. As an experiment, it was decided to allow the crews of BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles and BTR-82A armored personnel carriers to participate in the competition.
Also, the organizers this year gave a variety of competitions by organizing daily arrivals of the teams of both competitions on various equipment.
In total, about 100 servicemen from Rostov and Volgograd regions, Stavropol Territory, Crimea, as well as from the republics of the North Caucasus take part in the competition.
Participants of the competition will have to overcome land and water obstacles, hit 3 different types of targets at a distance of 900 to 2200 m, for each of which a certain ammunition is provided – a guided missile, a standard projectile and cartridges for the Kord heavy machine gun.
This year the competitions are held in the presence of spectators and fans. On the eve, all participants in the contests of the Army of the YuVO were vaccinated against a new coronavirus infection. Spectators are recommended to be in the stands wearing protective medical masks.
As part of the opening ceremony, guests and participants of the competition witnessed a large-scale dynamic demonstration of the combat capabilities of motorized rifle, tank and artillery units and the capabilities of a soldier in hand-to-hand combat.
