A large-scale counterterrorism exercise has been completed in the Central Military District (CVD). The event was attended by about 2 thousand servicemen in the regions of the Volga region and Siberia.

The final stage of the exercise took place at military training grounds in the Orenburg and Kemerovo regions. The headquarters of the created groupings of troops have worked out the operation to block and destroy imaginary terrorists. In practical actions, about 450 pieces of equipment from formations and units of the Central Military District were involved, including tanks, modernized infantry fighting vehicles, and self-propelled artillery mounts. Air support was provided by multifunctional Su-34 fighter-bombers and Mi-24 attack helicopters.

When planning and conducting the operation, special attention was paid to the use by commanders of new forms and methods of actions of combined arms units based on the experience of modern armed conflicts.

The exercise was conducted under the leadership of the commander of the Central Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, from March 16 to March 22, on the territory of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation, the Volga and Siberian federal districts.

The purpose of the exercise was to improve the practical skills of officials of the directorates of associations, commanders of formations and military units in managing subordinate forces and assets when performing tasks to eliminate illegal armed formations and terrorist groups during a counter-terrorist operation.
