Research in the field of mental health shows alarming results – the number of diagnosed cases of depression is growing rapidly, more and more residents of megacities are suffering from it, the disorder is becoming one of the first places among the causes of temporary disability. The problem became especially acute during the COVID-19 pandemic, when people found themselves in constant stress and were forced to stay in a confined space for a long time.

Depression is a serious mental disorder, among the main signs of which are a depressed state of mind, depression and a decrease or loss of the ability to have pleasure (anhedonia). According to experts, depression affects about 350 million people worldwide. Depression may not be obvious, but the disease can greatly affect the psyche and physical health if the person is not helped in time.

To draw attention to this disease, the International Day Against Depression was established, which is celebrated on March 24. The holiday has an educational task: members of professional organizations and ordinary people discuss the problems associated with depression and offer solutions.

Cultural venues in Moscow prepared a thematic program, which, in particular, included training with a psychologist and lectures on the principles of a healthy lifestyle. Guests will learn about methods of countering psychological aggression and how to deal with panic attacks.

Psychological trainings

One of the aspects of taking care of mental health is the ability to resist external psychological aggression. To learn about the methods and techniques of repelling attacks, it is worth watching the online lecture “Psychological Aikido: How to Resist Psychological Aggression.” The video is available on the page of Babushkinsky Park in the social network “In contact with”.

In library number 77, the psychologist will talk about the peculiarities of mental development in children, for example, about the impairment of the ability to adequately perceive reality, the syndrome of hyperactivity and attention deficit and autism spectrum disorders. Library number 79 named after B.A. Lavreneva invites you on March 24 at 18:30 to a lecture “I don’t like depression!” Participants will talk about the disorder and learn how to cheer themselves up when they need it most.

You can learn about the causes of a panic attack and how to cope with it at the online lesson “Panic Attacks”, which will be conducted by specialists from the Moscow Service for Psychological Assistance to the Population. Classes will be held on March 26 at 12:00 on the pages of Babushkinsky Park during “In contact with”, in “Instagram” and Facebook.

Physical activity

Physical activity has been shown to help fight depression and maintain a stable mental state. Park “Khodynskoe Pole” offers to do Chinese qigong gymnastics (the technique also includes breathing exercises and meditation). At the lesson of modern sword fighting, viewers will learn how to properly work with a shield and a sword in their hands, what combinations of blows there are, how to push the enemy out and what to do in order not to fall if the enemy tries to go with the shield to the ram. Fine motor skills

The effectiveness of art therapy in the fight against depression and a number of other mental disorders has also been scientifically proven.

The Zelenograd Cultural Center has prepared a pottery master class, which will be held on March 23 at 15:30. Participants will try to make a napkin holder. At the Spring Mood carving master class, guests will learn how to cut vegetables and fruits. You can try your hand at the culinary arts on March 24 at 14:00 in library number 30.

In the territorial club system “Kuntsevo” there will be a master class on academic drawing “The Magic World of Art”. It helps develop discipline, self-control and concentration. The lesson will take place on March 24 at 19:00.
