During a special press conference in Riyadh on March 22, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal Ben Farhan announced the Kingdom’s initiative to peacefully resolve the crisis in the Republic of Yemen (YR). Specifically, we are talking about stopping hostilities, resuming the operation of the international airport in Sana’a and the practice of calling ships with humanitarian and commercial cargo at the Red Sea port of Hodeidah, as well as launching inter-Yemeni talks under the auspices of the UN on the future political arrangement of the country.

Moscow welcomes these proposals and calls on the opposing sides to carefully and comprehensively study them. We have advocated and continue to advocate an early end to the protracted armed confrontation in YR, and the provision of sustainable stability and national accord in this country. We presume that the achievement of a comprehensive and long-term settlement of this conflict is possible on the basis of adequate consideration of the interests of all leading Yemeni political forces. This presupposes the complete lifting of the sea, air and land blockade of the country’s territory, as well as the implementation of other urgent practical steps aimed at rectifying the critical socio-economic and humanitarian situation in the Republic of Egypt.

We intend to continue to support the relevant efforts of the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Yemen M. Griffiths, as well as to actively encourage the President of the Republic of Yemen A. Hadi and the leadership of the Ansar Allah Houthi movement to show a constructive approach and readiness to compromise when considering existing differences.
