Psychologists of correctional colony # 11 have implemented a psychocorrectional program aimed at preventing the destructive behavior of convicts using bibliotherapy. The first group to work on the program included 10 convicted women.
The program lasts six months, with one-hour classes held weekly. Optimization of the psychological state is achieved by reading specially selected literature. The group includes convicts prone to destructive behavior, so that they help each other in acquiring new psychological skills. Women participate in discussions, discuss what they have read and share their own experiences.
– Convicts attending trainings with the use of bibliotherapy become more receptive to their experiences, their state of hopelessness and doom is weakened, and there is a desire to reconsider their life values and their significance. We will evaluate the effect obtained after the completion of the work of the first group, but even now we can say that the use of bibliotherapy in work with convicts is expedient, says Tatyana Zivko, head of the psychological laboratory of IK-11.
