Convicts of correctional colony No. 9 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Kursk Region have made to order almost 600 wooden napkin holders in a minimalist loft style.
Simple lines combined with abrasions, accentuated by the natural color of real wood, pleased the customer, and after the first batch, an order for the next one immediately followed.
– With a metal brush, soft wood fibers are removed, layer by layer is removed and a relief surface is created on which the growth rings are visible. Then the workpiece is sanded, colored and varnished. In this way, a natural pattern of wood is obtained, in parallel, the effect of aging is achieved, and interior items made using this technology acquire special attractiveness, ” said Olga Slyusareva, head of the department of labor adaptation of convicts.
A lot of 583 napkin holders has already been shipped to the customer, the convicts, employed in the woodworking areas, have begun to manufacture the next batch.
The modern industrial sector of the Kursk region includes 5 centers for labor adaptation, on the basis of which sewing and woodworking production, the production of metal products and souvenirs are organized.
The result of the work aimed at developing and increasing the efficiency of penitentiary production and, as a result, the labor of convicts, was a positive trend in the growth of qualitative indicators of labor adaptation of the special contingent. The growth in the number of convicts employed at the production facilities of institutions made it possible for them to pay off their claims for the last year by more than 27 million rubles.
To solve the problem of employment, the leadership of the penitentiary institutions of the region regularly holds meetings with representatives of public organizations and state authorities.
Penitentiary institutions are looking for new sales markets, actively participate in fairs and exhibitions held in the region, where they present their own products.
The leadership of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Kursk region does not intend to stop there. The plans are to continue active work on the employment of convicts so that they have the opportunity to work, earn money and pay claims.
