The “Thermal Points” mobile application of the EMERCOM of Russia was nominated for an award in the field of business efficiency of AI Russia Awards projects created using artificial intelligence. The service is part of the global departmental project “Atlas of Hazards and Risks”, within the framework of which the process of informing those responsible for preventing the negative consequences of a fire has been transformed.
“Innovative methods in the field of preventing and minimizing possible emergencies risks reduce the likelihood of uncontrolled spread of fires, improve safety, save lives and reduce economic damage. All users receive information about the situation in real time and can take action promptly, ”said Viktor Nichiporchuk, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations of Russia.
The Thermal Points application is designed to calculate fire risk using machine learning and big data analysis technologies. It automatically detects the likelihood of fire and the class of combustion at the location of the thermal point, notifies of high risks of fire in the specified areas and informs about the thermal point, which enhances patrolling and monitoring of the situation.
As a result of the implementation of the development, the responsiveness to natural fires has increased 3 times due to an increase in the accuracy of calculating the fire risk up to 92.5% and updating thermal points on the Earth’s surface up to 4 times a day.
The response model was created as a result of the open hackathon WILDFIRE AI, which was previously conducted by the Ministry of Emergencies of Russia and other interested organizations. Now the Thermal Points application is included in the open library of AI Russia Works cases and awards in the field of business efficiency of projects created using artificial intelligence technologies (https://ai-russia.ru/). The library was created as a guide to the practical application of AI technologies. The department’s project is the first development from the federal executive body, presented in this library.
“The application EMERCOM of Russia became the first in-house development from the Russian federal executive authority, which was included in the library. The use of artificial intelligence has made it possible to develop one of the world’s best solutions for combating wildfires. Using the example of the emergency department, we see that the state can also solve the most ambitious tasks using AI technologies, ”said Kirill Bulatov, director of the Alliance in the field of artificial intelligence.
Recall that the space monitoring system processes satellite data from Earth remote sensing around the clock. As a result of processing 4 times a day, a layer of thermal points (anomalies) is formed. Through the mobile application, information about them is communicated to representatives of municipal authorities or owners, who, after checking, confirm whether the thermal point is a fire. In addition, all information is duplicated on the portal of unified dispatch services of municipal districts.
