Servicemen of the engineering unit of the combined-arms army of the Eastern Military District (VVO) began to blast ice on the Arsenyevka River in Primorye. The decision on the allocation of a flood control group was made by the commander of the Air Defense Forces, Colonel-General Gennady Zhidko in connection with the appeal of the Primorsky Territory administration.

The work is being carried out in the Yakovlevsky district of the Primorsky Krai. Military engineers will perform several detonations of ice jams in order to avoid damage to the pillars of the bridge over the Arsenyevka River, which connects settlements with the regional center. In total, 20 servicemen were involved in flood control work, five units of military and special equipment were involved, it is planned to use about 150 kilograms of TNT.

All work is carried out in compliance with safety requirements, with the obligatory cordon off of the blasting area. The teams are manned by contract servicemen and are equipped with modern models of special weapons for the engineering troops.

As previously reported, the Air Defense Forces trained more than 150 flood control groups, about 30 crews of engineering units and about 50 mortar artillery units. More than 14.5 tons of explosives, about 4 thousand mines and 50 high-explosive fragmentation bombs have already been prepared for undermining the ice jams.
