MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

An increase in the average daily temperature in many regions leads to the fact that the ice begins to melt and change its structure. Every day it is more and more dangerous for fishermen to be on the ice, ice crossings are closed.

Throughout the country, GIMS inspectors check the thickness of the ice at the points of entry and exit of equipment on the ice. At crossings, where the ice thickness is no longer sufficient to ensure traffic safety, the transport artery is closed until next season.

In total, 1,066 ferries operated on the territory of Russia this year. As of March 26, 926 were already functioning in Russia. The most active closures this week are the ferries in Siberia and the Far East.

The decision to close is made not only on the basis of the thickness of the ice. Its structure is also of great importance – needle and water-saturated ice is unsafe, even if its thickness is 80 centimeters. This was the reason for the closure of one of the ferries in the Irkutsk region; in total, 7 ferries were closed in the region over the past week. Here, almost every day, after a survey by the commission, the ice crossings are closed.

In Kemerovo, over the past week, employees of the state inspection for small boats closed 19 crossings. All others are scheduled to close by April 1. Completion of operation is accompanied by blackening and cutting of ice.

In addition, in the region, within the framework of the Safe Ice campaign, employees of the EMERCOM of Russia, together with the police and local authorities, are conducting intensive preventive work with the population. Conversations are conducted and safe conduct reminders are given. Prohibitory signs are installed on the ice.

The interdepartmental action “Safe Ice” is being actively pursued in other regions as well. Mass preventive work with the population took place in Yakutia last week. GIMS employees reminded citizens of the rules for staying on water bodies. Preventive talks were even held among vacationers at a skating rink organized on the ice of the lake. Monitoring of the ice surface of the water areas to identify the formed gullies and places of mass emergence of fishermen on the ice took place in the Novosibirsk region. Here, village leaders and volunteers are involved in the Safe Ice campaign. During the raid, the violators were discovered. In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, in the course of the action this week, 177 places for people and equipment on the ice were checked. On March 26, several violators were found who not only fished on the ice under prohibition signs, but also drove out onto thin ice in a car. It is noted that in the city of Krasnoyarsk itself, there is practically no ice cover left on water bodies.

For violators of the prohibition of going out and going on the ice, in addition to the warning, fines are provided.
