The resource center “Mosvolonter” organizes educational programs for the capital’s companies on the development of corporate social responsibility (CSR), helps to determine the areas of activity, and also supports and advises organizations on all issues related to CSR.

The resource center specialists will prepare guidelines for the development of corporate volunteering, proposals for areas of volunteering, as well as a support program.
During the year, the resource center will hold a series of strategic meetings with organizations participating in the corporate volunteering development program, as well as educational sessions. Companies that are just starting out in volunteering can take an entry-level training program. And for those who already have experience in this area, there are advanced programs.
Volunteering, caring for animals and urban ecology
For each company, Mosvolonter offers its own format of participation, depending on the field of activity and available resources. For example, you can join volunteer activities in one of the volunteering areas supported by the resource center.
“The Resource Center can provide programs in several key areas of volunteering. Among them are volunteer visits to psycho-neurological boarding schools (PNI), nursing homes, animal shelters and other special institutions for organizing the leisure of wards. You can also collect and take things to nursing homes or become mentors in orphanages, help animal shelters find a loving family for four-legged wards, ”said Dmitry Pokrovsky, director of the Mosvolonter resource center.
For example, you can join zoovolunteering: go to animal shelters, help collect and distribute food, or deal with the addition of abandoned pets. In 2020, Mosvolonter, together with charitable foundations for helping animals, held a number of volunteer actions: more than 130 volunteers from Moscow went to shelters for homeless animals and donated over two tons of food for dogs and cats, about a thousand diapers, blankets, sunbeds, pillows, about 300 toys, 30 leashes, more than 40 collars and muzzles, as well as clothes, combs, bowls.
You can also provide volunteer support to people in difficult life situations. For example, help in crisis centers for women, participate in the delivery of food packages from charitable foundations to large families or people with limited mobility.
Eco-volunteering and concern for urban ecology is another area that companies are increasingly turning to. During the training program, Mosvolonter will share its own experience of how to properly dispose of paper, unnecessary documents, cardboard packaging and organize separate waste collection in the office. For example, recyclable materials from eco-boxes installed in Mosvolonter are taken to the Eco-center “Assembly”, where they are sorted and transferred for processing. In total, in 2020, Moscow volunteers collected and shipped about 300 kilograms of waste paper.
Also among the areas that can be developed in the field of CSR are event volunteering, participation in large-scale city events.
Pro bono and resource assistance
Another format of participation is pro bono, or intellectual volunteering, when specialists provide professional services free of charge. Lawyers can provide legal advice, psychologists can provide free psychological assistance, copywriters and programmers can help with updating the site, and a designer – with a new banner for the event.
If the company has the opportunity, it can also offer resource assistance to socially oriented NGOs – provide office equipment or premises, print information booklets, or help finance an event.
How CSR develops in the organizations of the capital
Not only private, but also state organizations are actively involved in the development of corporate social responsibility. For example, there are more than 1,500 people in the team of the youth council under the Department of Housing and Utilities. Among them there are both novice volunteers and experienced city assistants with 20 years of experience in volunteering. Over the past four years, they have organized about 600 events in the capital.
In addition to their job responsibilities, the Department’s specialists are systematically engaged in sports, social, environmental, cultural, scientific and other types of volunteering. Each direction has its own key projects. For example, among the activities of environmental volunteering in 2020, there were excursions to the waste sorting plant and training in separate waste collection, at the Nekrasovka shelter, an isolator for animals in need of rehabilitation was being built, and the youth council team also supported other city shelters for homeless animals.
Last year, the team of the Youth Council won the Moscow Volunteer 2020 competition in the Organizer of Good Deeds nomination with the Youth Housing and Utilities for Children project. Volunteers regularly support young patients at the Morozov hospital: they organize holidays for them, play meetings, conduct master classes and give their care and attention.
“Creation of the sphere of corporate social responsibility in the organization allows specialists to realize their ideas and potential, to get to know their colleagues better. In addition, direct communication channels are created between employees and management – everyone’s suggestion will be heard. Thus, management is always involved in corporate life and is ready to support good initiatives, help to implement them, because the creation of a culture of good deeds is also pride in those with whom you work every day shoulder to shoulder. The Youth Council under the Department of Housing and Utilities is trying to broadcast its initiatives not only in the capital, but also beyond its borders.
