In order to timely prevent the adverse consequences of the spring flood, mobile groups were created from among the specialists of the pontoon units of the engineer regiment of the combined arms army of the Western Military District, stationed in the Leningrad Region.

During the exercise, the servicemen improved their skills in using standard engineering reconnaissance devices, measuring the thickness of the ice cover, installing and undermining ice jams. In total, more than 200 kg of explosives were used during the exercise.

The newly created mobile group is armed with a BMK-460 tugboat, equipped with a powerful mechanical installation, a radio station and night vision devices that enable the boat to move at any time of the day, as well as PTS floating transporters and SNP inflatable boats.

Subdivisions of the engineer regiment of the combined-arms army of the Western Military District are annually involved in the elimination of the consequences of spring floods and water spills on the territory of the Leningrad Region. In the spring of last year, the servicemen of the compound successfully carried out an operation to establish a pontoon crossing in the village of Panozero in the Republic of Karelia.
