Russian servicemen of the International Mine Action Center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation completed joint tasks with servicemen of the U-58 demining unit of the People’s Army of Laos to search for and neutralize explosives in the area of ​​Thonghaihin airfield (Sienghuang province).

During the work from December 2020 to March 2021, more than 1000 explosive objects were discovered and neutralized by Russian specialists on the Lao territory of over 3 hectares.

The main part of the ammunition belonged to the cluster bombs of the BLU-26, BLU-63, BLU-3 / B types, antipersonnel mines and artillery shells.

The cleared area was handed over to representatives of the National Committee for the Control of Unexploded Munitions of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

On the territory of Laos, on the basis of the branch of the International Mine Action Center of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lao military personnel underwent theoretical training on Russian means of search and protection of a sapper, and also mastered their practical application on the ground together with their Russian colleagues.

In addition, the transfer of the latest Russian means of searching for explosives and protecting the sapper (a portable induction mine detector, a deep metal detector, etc.) to specialists of the engineering troops of the People’s Army of Laos took place.

This is the third mission of Russian servicemen from the mine action center to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

In order to fulfill the decision of the President of the Russian Federation, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, a demining detachment of the International Mine Action Center of the RF Armed Forces in the amount of 32 people was sent to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic to assist in the demining of the country’s territory.
