At the first meeting of the organizing committee of the VII All-Russian Prize “For Fidelity to Science”, the composition of the expert council of the award, the list of nominations and the start date for accepting applications were approved. The award “For Fidelity to Science” is included in the plan of the main events of the Year of Science and Technology in the Russian Federation.

The value of the prize in the Year of Science and Technology was noted by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko.

“The award“ For Fidelity to Science ”, which is being held for the seventh time, has a special meaning in the Year of Science and Technology. And the attention from the participants proves this. A record number of applications is expected this year. Journalists, public figures and scientists, introducing the audience to objective facts and the latest technological achievements of the country, make a significant contribution to the popularization of Russian science. I am sure that thanks to the award, new educational projects will be identified that will contribute to the formation of a wonderful feeling in our citizens – pride in the country, ”the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Opening the meeting, the head of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science, Valery Falkov, emphasized that the award “For Loyalty to Science” is one of the significant events in a large line of events approved within the framework of the Year of Science and Technology.

“At different sites, the need is noted to unite the efforts of universities, the scientific community and experts to popularize the achievements of Russian scientists. The award is a vivid example of how you can and should move in this direction. Popularization of science is an extremely important task of national importance. We must honor everyone who successfully promotes science to the masses, popularizes knowledge, is engaged in this noble cause, ”said Valery Falkov.

“The prize is awarded to those media representatives, those young scientists who contribute to the popularization of science. You and I live in a country that can really be proud of its science. This work is very difficult – scientific journalism. In addition to ordinary, traditional journalism, we live in the age of social media, new media, multimedia, and, of course, all this should help people learn about the achievements of our science. This is especially important now, when we are on the verge of changing the scientific and technological structure. Every year the distance between fundamental science and simple human life is shrinking, and this process will accelerate, ”said Dmitry Peskov.

In his opinion, in order to talk about complex scientific achievements in a simple and understandable language, no less knowledge and talent is required than the researchers themselves, and in this regard, journalists bear a great responsibility.

Mikhail Kovalchuk, President of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”, also spoke about the importance of popularizing science.

“The task is to raise the importance of science and make it more popular. The role of the scientific community is extremely important. We have created an association of science teachers. The special role of scientists today is to bring new sensations to the masses in connection with the transition to a new technological order, ”noted Mikhail Kovalchuk.

Viktor Sadovnichy, Chairman of the Russian Union of Rectors, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University, noted that popularization of science is needed, first of all, for young people, those who are starting their life. “They must see what they can do for themselves, for the country, for the development of science,” the rector said. Viktor Sadovnichy also considered it important to pay sufficient attention to regional science and talk more about scientists from the regions.

Applications for the award will be accepted from April 15th. For the first time in 2021, a special nomination “The best project aimed at protecting the historical truth” was introduced, as well as awards for the popularization of the nuclear and space industries. The award ceremony is scheduled for November 10 – World Science Day for Peace and Development.

Journalists covering the topic of Russian science, popularizers of science, scientists and business representatives who have made a significant contribution to supporting the prestige of professional scientific activities and popularizing domestic scientific achievements can nominate themselves.

The approved composition of the expert council includes well-known scientists, journalists, widely covering scientific topics, representatives of state authorities, private foundations, companies, non-profit organizations, universities, research institutes. The first meeting of the organizing committee was attended by President of the National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” Mikhail Kovalchuk, General Director of the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” Alexei Likhachev, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichy, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Alexander Sergeev other.
