March 29 this year at the 15th emergency session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, an official decision was made to hold the next 45th session of the Committee in 2022 in the Russian Federation in Kazan.
The upcoming session next summer is timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the 1972 Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage. The event will also include a Forum of World Heritage Site Managers, a Youth Model and a children’s shift at the Orlyonok All-Russian Children’s Center. In addition, the World Heritage Youth Forum will be held in St. Petersburg on the basis of the Mining University. The unifying theme of the planned events is “Intercultural Dialogue as an Imperative for the Preservation of World Heritage”.
About four thousand delegates are expected to attend, including the ministers of culture, education and the environment, as well as professional non-governmental organizations ICOMOS and IUCN.
