On March 28, at the age of 85, the former President of the Republic of Madagascar, Didier Ratsiraka, who headed the Malagasy state in 1975-1993, died. and in 1997-2001.

D. Ratsiraka was an active supporter of the development of friendly relations between Madagascar and the USSR, and subsequently Russia. In his capacity as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Madagascar, he paid a visit to our country in September 1972, during which an agreement was reached on the establishment of diplomatic relations. During his tenure as head of state, D. Ratsiraka made several official visits to Moscow, actively contributing to the progressive advancement of the multifaceted cooperation of Madagascar with our country.

D. Ratsiraka enjoyed a well-deserved prestige among his fellow citizens and outside the country, until the last days he continued to play a noticeable role in the political life of Madagascar.
