A large-scale educational event took place at once in three correctional colonies and pre-trial detention center No. 2. At the invitation of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia for the Smolensk Region, Advisor to the Director of the United Memorial Museum Yu.A. Gagarina, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation Tamara Dmitrievna Filatova shared her memories of the number one cosmonaut with the staff and the convicts. In general, about four hundred people had the opportunity to communicate with the guest of honor.

According to Tamara Dmitrievna, she gladly accepted such an invitation. Until now, she hasn’t had to speak in places of imprisonment, but she thought about it for a long time. Indeed, in her memoirs, Tamara Dmitrievna touches on a very wide range of important, both historical and simply human, topics that can serve as an example for someone, make someone think, become news for someone, and give hope to someone. bright future.

Here are the hardest years of the Great Patriotic War, and the life of the Soviet people during the period of recovery after it, and the beginning of space exploration, and how you need to go to achieve your goal, love the Motherland and take care of your family. Of course, all this is based on the example of Yuri Gagarin, a native of Smolensk region.

The age difference between Tamara Dmitrievna and her uncle was only thirteen years. He also became her godfather. A special close bond was immediately established between the relatives. That is why Tamara Dmitrievna to this day thoroughly remembers all the smallest details from the life of the first cosmonaut – a man with boundless love for his country and the cause to which he devoted himself.

– All his life, Yuri Alekseevich worked in two rods, never was a “wedding general”, even after he made the first flight and became famous. He was always a “workhorse”, – said Tamara Dmitrievna.

And the guest urged all listeners to set good goals and achieve them, move, go forward. After all, it is unlikely that initially someone could have assumed that a native of a simple peasant family with an education in six classes and a subsequent vocational school would become the first conqueror of the Universe.

– But Yura always dreamed of space. Although the road to it was very difficult. To climb into the sky was his cherished dream. And he was chosen out of three and a half thousand applicants! – recalls the niece of our famous countryman.

The day of the first flight – April 12, 1961 – then became a truly national holiday. Everyone took to the streets, hugged, rejoiced, cried with happiness.

“Now, of course, it’s hard to imagine,” the guest explains, “but it was a real euphoria. I will only say one thing: when meeting with the participants of the Great Patriotic War, I heard from them that the feelings experienced on the day of the first flight, in depth and penetration, they compared with the emotions of the great Victory Day.

While for Yuri Gagarin himself, this event was not a feat, but was an ordinary job, the result of his incredible everyday work. At the same time, the “stardom” bypassed the first cosmonaut. And on his return, he will modestly tell his wife that he did not even expect such a meeting.

Those who were lucky enough to be present at the event heard all this and much more from the stories of Tamara Dmitrievna Filatova. The guest also brought with her and showed the audience genuine photographs from the family archive, the original letter from Yuri Gagarin addressed to his mother, the first edition of his book “The Road to Space” with the author’s autograph.

At the end of Tamara Dmitrievna’s visit, at her request, employees spoke about how the life and work of institutions are arranged. The guest was deeply struck and moved by the fact that in each of the three colonies thematic exhibitions, stands, wall newspaper contests dedicated to the sixtieth anniversary of the first manned flight into space were organized.

– I did not see “empty” eyes in the hall. Such trips are needed. Now I am firmly convinced of this! – summarized Tamara Dmitrievna Filatova the results of the day spent together with the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Smolensk region.
