On April 2, a regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States was held in Moscow. In the current anniversary year for the CIS, the chairmanship is carried out by Belarus.

The heads of the foreign affairs agencies exchanged views on topical international and regional problems, further promoting joint approaches at key international platforms. We discussed the prospects for deepening multifaceted cooperation in the Commonwealth format in the law enforcement, military and humanitarian spheres.

Traditionally, special attention was paid to the issues of strengthening foreign policy coordination. The ministers summed up the results of the implementation in 2020 of the Action Program to intensify the partnership between the foreign affairs agencies of the CIS member states and the Plan of multi-level inter-ministerial consultations. As a result of the meeting, the draft Appeal of the heads of the CIS member states to the peoples of the Commonwealth countries and the world community in connection with the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was approved.

A number of documents adopted at the end of the meeting will be submitted for consideration by the Council of CIS Heads of State and the Council of CIS Heads of Government.

The next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers will be held on October 14, 2021 in Minsk on the eve of the meeting of the heads of state of the Commonwealth.
