Moscow hosted a meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Russian-Turkmen Commission on Economic Cooperation, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Alexei Overchuk and Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov.
The parties discussed the current state of trade and economic cooperation, issues of interaction in industry, transport, healthcare, finance and banking, as well as in the field of digital technologies and humanitarian ties.
During the meeting, the Program of Economic Cooperation between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Turkmenistan for 2021-2023, which is being developed by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, was noted, which will serve to expand bilateral cooperation between the countries.
In addition, interregional cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan became an important issue on the agenda.
In order to further deepen ties at the level of the regions of Russia and Turkmenistan, the parties signed an Agreement developed by the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of Turkmenistan on promoting interregional cooperation.
According to the Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Dmitry Volvach, the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on promoting interregional cooperation is a driver for the development of bilateral relations, including for interaction at the regional level.
“The agreement will give a new impetus to the development of interregional cooperation between Russia and Turkmenistan,” he stressed.
The document is aimed at developing interregional cooperation in trade, economic, scientific, technical, cultural and humanitarian spheres, in the spheres of industry, transport, agriculture, energy and ecology, as well as in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia, the Ministry of Transport of Russia, FCS of Russia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and others.
