The sports center (Abakan, Republic of Khakassia) of the Samara branch of CSKA, together with the command of the 5th separate railway Poznan Red Banner brigade of the Central Military District, organized a military-patriotic excursion “One day in the army” for the pupils of the sports school in Abakan.

Twenty pupils of the school, accompanied by army mentors, got acquainted with the service and life of the brigade’s military personnel.

The excursion through the territory of the military unit was conducted by the deputy chief of the battalion for military-political work, Major Ruslan Sarantsev.

The special equipment of the military unit aroused great interest of the young athletes – the children visited the car park and were able not only to inspect the cars, but also to sit in the cabins and get acquainted with the equipment.

In the cultural and leisure center, the unit for the pupils of the sports school could try their hand at disassembling and assembling a Kalashnikov assault rifle. Almost everyone held a real military weapon in their hands for the first time in their lives.

The Brigade History Museum also made a big impression on the army. Here they learned that the military unit originated in 1932 and the formed units of the military railway workers immediately got involved in the difficult, hard work to strengthen the country’s military potential. Novosibirsk, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Slyudyanka, Mysovaya, Far East – these are just small pre-war milestones of the brigade.

A separate line is written in the history of the feat of the soldiers-railroad workers of the formation during the Great Patriotic War. The units of the formation began their combat path from Western Ukraine, and met Victory in Frankfurt-on-Oder. For exemplary performance of combat missions, the brigade was awarded the Order of the Red Banner and received the honorary name “Poznan”. Five servicemen were awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and more than seven thousand railway soldiers were awarded orders and medals of the USSR and foreign states.

At the present stage, military railway workers are only multiplying the heroic legacy of their predecessors. They participated in the elimination of the consequences of the technogenic accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station, restored the railway bridge over the Abakan river destroyed by a water element, took an active part in extinguishing forest fires and eliminating floods in Khakassia,

The acquaintance with army life ended in the soldier’s canteen, where the school’s athletes were fed a delicious soldier’s lunch.

Saying goodbye, the army team sincerely thanked the brigade command for the hospitable reception.
