“The creation of a communications infrastructure is fundamentally important for the implementation of state tasks, including within the framework of the national program“ Digital Economy of the Russian Federation ”. In this regard, the priority for us is to eliminate the digital divide and provide the population with the Internet by 2030 throughout the country, including its most remote corners. In 2021, it is planned to install more than a thousand base stations to organize Internet access for small settlements. This will affect the quality of life of small settlements. By the end of this year, we will also connect all socially significant objects to the Internet, including educational organizations, feldsher-obstetric centers, state authorities and local self-government bodies. The Ministry of Digital Industry is gradually solving these problems, ”the Deputy Prime Minister noted.
“In 2021, the second stage of eliminating the digital divide in Russia will start – it will include the provision of Internet to settlements and the beginning of the provision of mobile services where they are currently unavailable. High-speed Internet will come to villages and villages with 100–250 inhabitants, and mobile communications – to settlements with a population of 100–500 people. In addition, in order to connect small settlements to the Internet as quickly as possible, we will have to abandon the use of payphones where they are not currently in demand. This will free up resources for the accelerated construction of modern base stations using 4G technology, ”said Maksut Shadayev, Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media.
This year, all payphones in settlements with a population of more than a thousand people and all payphones in settlements with a population of less than a thousand people, traffic on which in 2020 was less than 1 minute per month, will be decommissioned.
