Logistics support vessel (STO) “Vsevolod Bobrov” of project 23120, built at “Severnaya Verf” (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) successfully completed a 4-hour test towing of a vessel of equal displacement during the next stage of factory sea trials in the designated area of the Finnish bay. At present, the crew of the logistics support vessel (STO) “Vsevolod Bobrov” and the commissioning team of the “Severnaya Verf” enterprise continue to check general ship life support systems, communication facilities, and the operation of towing devices in the water area of the Gulf of Finland. This was reported to the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov, at a meeting where the issues of testing new ships and vessels built for the Navy were considered.
Earlier, on April 3, the service station “Vsevolod Bobrov” replenished stocks in Kronstadt, having completed the first stage of factory sea trials. During the first stage of the factory sea trials, the ship’s radio navigation equipment, communications equipment and the operation of the main propulsion system were tested.
Sea trials of the service station “Vsevolod Bobrov” in the Baltic Sea will last for about a month. A delivery team of more than 100 people will work on the ship together with the crew. Its tasks include checking the main power plant, other systems and mechanisms, testing the operation of cranes and winches in the open sea. It is planned that in April, the commissioning team and the ship’s crew should proceed to state tests.
Vsevolod Bobrov is the second ship of Project 23120 built at Severnaya Verf (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation). The lead ship “Elbrus” joined the group of support vessels for the service of the auxiliary fleet of the joint strategic command of the Northern Fleet in 2018. In 2019, Elbrus completed a 175-day circumnavigation of the world with Russian ships led by the frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov.
Based on the results of the operation of the lead vessel, project 23120 has been finalized. In particular, the functionality of the deck has been increased, communication and navigation systems have been improved.
Logistics support vessel “Vsevolod Bobrov” of project 23120 is intended for the carriage of goods, towing, conducting hydrographic studies, and rendering assistance to ships in distress. Thanks to crane equipment and a dynamic positioning system, the vessel can carry out loading operations at unequipped quay walls and in the open sea. Automation class A1 provides unattended service. The hull with ice class ARC4 is designed to overcome 0.6 m thick ice.
The ship is named after the famous football player and hockey player, Honored Master of Sports, Honored Coach of the USSR, Olympic champion Vsevolod Mikhailovich Bobrov (01.12.1922 -01.07.1979), the only athlete in the history of the Olympic Games who was the captain of the national team of the country in both in another sport.
