Representatives of several Omsk TV channels and online publications visited pre-trial detention center No. 1 as part of a press tour organized by the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Omsk Region. The excursion was conducted by the head of the remand prison Vyacheslav Zhidovtsov.
As part of the press tour, the journalists visited the old and new buildings of the pre-trial detention center, were able to assess the conditions of detention of the accused, suspects and convicts in the cells. Then the guests visited the catering unit, where the preparation of dinner was completed, and were able to personally assess the quality of food preparation from the daily diet of the persons detained in the isolation ward.
Also, the media were shown cells for keeping women and minors. In the women’s corps, journalists were particularly interested in the presence of a cell for keeping women with small children, equipped with a crib, playpen, changing table, as well as equipment for cooking, heating and storing food.
On the floor for holding juvenile suspects, accused and convicts, the journalists were shown a room for educational work, a room for psychological relief and a small sports hall for sports, equipped with horizontal bars, wall bars and treadmills.
The journalists were shown a historical landmark preserved from the time of the construction of the Omsk prison – a fragment of old brickwork and a spiral staircase. This place was carefully restored for the 160th anniversary of the detention center No. 1 in 2019 and is carefully maintained in its historical original form.
At the end of the excursion, media representatives expressed their gratitude to the leadership of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Omsk Region and the head of the SIZO for organizing and conducting the press tour.
