In the capital of Tajikistan, the commander of the 201st Russian military base visited the veteran of the Great Patriotic War Oleg Dmitrievich Sobolev and congratulated him on his 97th birthday.

Having presented flowers, Colonel Serey Goryachev wished the soldier good health and invited him and his wife to the military base on May 9 to take part in the events dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. As a gift, the young soldier sang Oleg Dmitrievich’s favorite songs on a synthesizer, and the musicians of the military orchestra played the “Victory” march on wind instruments under the veteran’s windows.

Oleg Dmitrievich volunteered for the front. He took his first battle at the age of 17 as part of the 78th Fighter Battalion near Strelna, 7 km from Peterhof. As part of the 50th Marine Brigade, he took part in breaking through the besieged Leningrad. Sobolev reached Berlin and Prague and returned home with Victory. For his service and combat activities, the war veteran was awarded the medal for the defense of Leningrad, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the medal for the liberation of Prague, for the Victory over Germany, the badge “Defender of the Oranienbaum bridgehead” and other medals.
