In the Republic of Buryatia, in the technical unit of the Eastern Military District, work is being completed to restore the barrelless system of the BM-13 field rocket artillery, the legendary Katyusha during the Great Patriotic War.
Finished painting of the cab and the car body. The engine is technically sound and has been repeatedly tested by servicemen at various loads and operating modes. “Katyusha” easily moves under its own power. The most important element of the legendary vehicle, the rocket launcher, was placed and secured in its original place.
To complete the restoration work on the BM-13, servicemen need to install attachments, apply markings, paint individual small body parts. After that, the “Katyusha” will go to trainings for the Victory Parade as part of a mechanized convoy.
The main problem that complicated and delayed the restoration process was the lack of spare parts. Many parts were found and delivered from other cities in Russia.
The original engine could not be restored and was replaced with an exact copy. After a long search, the engine was taken from another city to a workshop and underwent a major overhaul.
Previously, the car was a monument on the Glory Avenue of mechanized equipment during the Great Patriotic War on the territory of the headquarters of the military association of the Air Defense Forces in the military town of Sosnovy Bor. At the initiative of the unit command, the rocket launcher was removed from the pedestal and delivered to the territory of the technical missile unit’s park for restoration work.
It is planned that the BM-13 “Katyusha” will take part in the Victory Parades on May 9 on the main square of the city of Ulan-Ude. She will lead the mechanized convoy along with the T-34 tank, which was previously restored by the military foremen of the repair battalion to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
