In order to increase interest in the study of a foreign language and in the culture of the people speaking the target language, to develop intercultural communication skills, to identify the most talented students among university students, interuniversity English Olympiads were held at Omsk State Technical University.
The first Olympiad was organized for III-IV year students with in-depth study of the English language.
The tasks of the first stage were aimed at identifying phonetic, grammatical, lexical and regional knowledge.
Students who successfully passed the first were invited to participate in the second stage. It consisted of a creative task – a description of a photograph.
The branch of VA MTO in Omsk was represented by a combined team of five cadets. In the second stage, they were opposed by the students of the Omsk Technical University, studying in the additional specialty “Translator in the field of professional communication.” At the end of the second stage, cadet Alexei Yakovlev won the third place.
Another Olympiad held in Omsk was the Interuniversity Student Olympiad in English. The event was held under the auspices of the Omsk English Language Teachers Association (Omsk English Language Teachers Association) in Omsk in close cooperation with Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoevsky. The Olympiad was held in three stages. The tasks of the first stage were aimed at identifying the level of formation of the ability to perceive oral speech by ear. In the second stage, the participants performed a test containing tasks on the knowledge of phonetic and grammatical rules, lexical units, and regional geographic realities. In the third stage, the students demonstrated their proficiency in oral speech.
Six teams from Omsk universities took part in the Olympiad. The branch of the Military Academy of Logistics in the city of Omsk was represented by a combined team of six cadets of the first and second courses and, according to the results of the Olympiad, took an honorable second place.
