April 6 marks the 180th anniversary of the birth of the Russian self-taught poet, the representative of the “peasant” trend in Russian literature, Ivan Zakharovich Surikov, the author of such famous works, poems as “In the native land”, “Morning on the shore of the lake”, “Peasant children”, “Childhood”, “Rowan”, “In the Steppe” and others.

In correctional institutions of the penal system, more than 6,000 events were organized to coincide with this significant date. There were held, including 2531 lectures on the history of the life of Ivan Surikov’s creative activity, 1352 quizzes, more than 600 readers’ conferences, 479 readings of the works of the Russian poet, as well as 1762 other events. In addition, 413 thematic exhibitions were held in libraries and clubs of correctional institutions of the penitentiary system of the Russian Federation.

More than 100 thousand convicts took part in the organization and conduct of all events.
