From 7 to 9 April, the fourth St. Petersburg practical course on otosurgery and auditory implantation took place, which is held for the third year in a row by the departments of otorhinolaryngology and operative surgery of the Military Medical Academy. According to the organizers of the course, in addition to the increase in the number of participants in the master class, the program is adjusted from year to year, there are more surgical interventions, and intensive work in operating rooms with workstations equipped with endoscopic stands, power and navigation equipment allows each student to work out various surgical technology. The course presented special equipment for three-dimensional imaging for microsurgery and open surgery, on which an extended dissection of the temporal bone was performed. Meanwhile, as the Deputy Head of the Department of Otolaryngology of the Military Medical Academy, Colonel of the Medical Service Andrei Golovanov, noted, 3D visualization is a parallel developing technology along with microscopy and external visualization. Today it is an additional tool in the hands of a surgeon, and it is mainly in demand in laparoscopic abdominal surgery operations. Endoscopic instruments of ENT surgeons are much thinner and 3D imaging technology in nasal and ear surgery is extremely limited. However, these technologies have proven themselves well in training, when a large number of students can see a three-dimensional picture of what is happening in the surgical field without being directly in the operating room.
Such training events a few years ago required a tremendous amount of effort in the organization. Now they are becoming an ordinary routine, and the capabilities of the department, whose equipment is considered one of the best not only in our country, but also in Europe, allow conducting practical courses in various specialties of various levels. Since the beginning of the year, more than 10 master classes have been held at the department.
