MIL OSI Translation. Region: Russian Federation –

We drew attention to the anti-Russian statements of the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) L. Almagro, who, allegedly on behalf of the general secretariat of this association, supported the US decision to impose sanctions against our country.

As in the previous Russophobic attacks of L. Almagro, the Secretary General’s desire to pass off his personal ultra-American position as the opinion of the entire organization, in which Russia is a constant observer, is again traced.

The Secretary General’s political engagement, which does not match the regional structure of the countries of the Western Hemisphere, is deeply regrettable.

We note with satisfaction that Russia maintains a close political dialogue with the OAS states of Latin America based on adherence to the fundamental principles of multilateral foundations of international cooperation: respect for the sovereignty of states and the rule of international law, non-interference in internal affairs, strengthening the central coordinating role of the UN, and develops practical cooperation in various areas – economy, education, culture, science and technology, and now – in countering the COVID-19 pandemic.

We continue to assume that the OAS is an important platform for the development of dialogue, mutual understanding and cooperation without dividing lines. The Secretary General should not be distracted by moralizing about the observer states, but more often deal with pressing regional problems, especially in these difficult times.
