The history of the Ural Institute of Fire Fighting Service began on April 17, 1929, when the Ural regional fire-technical courses were opened. Since then, the educational institution has continuously grown, updated its material and technical base and changed its name several times, before in 2002 it received its current name – the Ural Institute of the State Fire Service of the EMERCOM of Russia.

The Institute is proud of its graduates. Among them – Hero of the Soviet Union Leonid Petrovich Telyatnikov, who headed the fire department for the protection of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Hero of Russia Valery Valentinovich Zamaraev – mortally wounded during the release of hostages in the city of Beslan.

The Institute trains both cadets and students. Cadets study at the Faculty of Fire and Technosphere Safety, and students enter the Faculty of Management and Integrated Security, where they train specialists in the following training programs: “Fire Safety”, “Technosphere Safety”, “Forensic Science” and “State and Municipal Administration”.

Today the Ural Institute of the State Fire Service of the EMERCOM of Russia is a leading educational institution in the Urals with a rich material and technical base. Basic and special fire fighting equipment is used for the educational process. Extensive equipment and fire-tactical weapons allow cadets and students to receive rich theoretical knowledge, as well as improve practical skills.

There are men’s and women’s teams in fire and rescue sports at the institute. The best athletes are part of the Russian national team and perform at the international level.
