In Volgograd, the Cup of Russia and the All-Russian orienteering competition in cross disciplines, as well as the Orienteering Festival dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the Great Victory ended. The competition was attended by 570 athletes from 33 regions of the country.

Orienteers competed for awards at sprint distances, the tracks of which were laid on the Central Embankment and Mamayev Kurgan. As a result of the competition, a national team was formed to participate in the European Championship, which will be held from 13 to 16 May in Switzerland.

Within the framework of the Russian Cup in the discipline “cross-sprint – common start”, Igor Popov, a pupil of the sports school (Olympic reserve, complex) of the CSKA branch (SKA, St. Petersburg), took part. In this nomination, 73 athletes entered the start.

The soldier was the second to cover the 3-kilometer distance with 34 control points, finishing with a result of 20 minutes and 45 seconds.

The best result of 20 minutes and 18 seconds was shown by Dmitry Patrin (Republic of Buryatia). Dmitry Nakonechny from the Kaliningrad region closed the top three (20.49).
