On-demand buses will soon appear in Moscow, which can be called using a mobile application.

In project “Active citizen” opened vote by choosing a name for a new type of passenger transportation. Buses will soon appear in Moscow, which will operate on demand. They are planned to be launched in test mode this year in the Troitsk and Novomoskovsk administrative districts.

Such buses can be called through the Moscow Transport application. Passengers will need to enter information about the trip: where and where to go from, and the system will show how long it will take for the bus to arrive and where it will stop, as well as determine the cost of the trip. The distance to the stopping point should not exceed 500 meters from the client, and the waiting time should not take more than 30 minutes.

The new transport operates on the same principle as taxis, but passengers will be transported not by cars, but by minibuses designed for 8-16 seats. The trips are cheaper than taxis, but more expensive than regular buses.

Voters in the “Active Citizen” are asked to decide what to call the new service. They have three options to choose from: “On the way”, “Union”, “Your bus”.

Similar passenger services are available in many major cities: London (Dial-a-Ride), Berlin (BerlKönig), Dubai (Bus on Demand), New York (Via). On-demand buses will not replace traditional public transport, but will complement it, like car sharing or bike rental. They are especially relevant for residents of areas where there is no metro or Moscow Central Diameters. With their help, Muscovites will be able to get to the nearest station faster.

The Active Citizen project was launched in 2014 for online voting on urban development issues. During this time, more than five million people have joined it. Participants of the voting express their opinion on the issues of which streets, courtyards and parks need to be improved, how city polyclinics, libraries, multifunctional centers should work, and also choose events for festivals and celebrations. Since its inception, more than 4.9 thousand votes have been held within the framework of the project.

The decisions adopted by the majority of votes are implemented in the city. What appeared or changed in Moscow thanks to the “Active Citizen” is published on online map project. More than 1.6 thousand objects have already been marked on it. And in the heading “Pulse of the Capital” you can evaluate these changes. Users spend the points accumulated for participating in voting on souvenirs, excursions, discounts in stores and for charity.
