Volunteers help to hold city events, charity events, good marathons of the capital, and also create useful projects for the development of the urban environment.
Volunteers over the age of 55 (they are also called “silver”) actively participate in city events, and also share their experiences with novice volunteers. Since the beginning of the year, 182 volunteers over 55 have taken part in 12 sports, cultural, educational and memorial events in the capital.
This year, the “silver” volunteers congratulated Muscovites on the 8th of March at the action “To you, beloved ones.” Six volunteers over 55 years old took part in the citywide memorial and patronage action for the Defender of the Fatherland Day and the Day of Remembrance of the Russians who performed their official duties outside the Fatherland. Together with young volunteers, they put in order the burial places of the participants of the Great Patriotic War in city cemeteries and cleaned the area around them. Also, older volunteers support the doctors of the mobile medical teams who vaccinate citizens against COVID-19 as part of the Vaccination Helpers campaign.
“Silver” volunteers helped during the concerts of the “Apothecary Garden” of the Moscow State University Botanical Garden, participated in the organization of festive skating at the VDNKh skating rink, FIS World Cups in snowboarding and freestyle, the All-Russian folk dance competition “Russian Round Dance”, the table game tournament “Territory of Emotions” and other events.
“Silver” volunteers in new projects of “Mosvolonter”
The Mosvolonter Resource Center organizes training events for older volunteers. For example, during the special project “Spring Week of Kindness”, an educational master class “Healthy Longevity” was held, which ended with a lesson in Nordic walking.
This year Mosvolonter launched another project for volunteers over 55 years old – the federal program Young in Soul. It will provide more opportunities for citizens to participate in volunteerism, training and professional growth. In addition, they will be able to implement their own projects. Experts on the development of volunteer programs in the field of “silver” volunteering will act as mentors and support the implementation of the initiatives of the participants.
For senior citizens, internships, trainings and lectures on media and communications will also be organized, master classes on the basics of photography, video editing, journalism and social networking will be held. You can join the “Young in Soul” program by filling out the participant’s questionnaire, information about which is published in the Mosvolonter account on the network “In contact with”.
In March, a posting contest “Silver Spring” was held for volunteers. Participants posted stories on their VKontakte pages about how they became volunteers, shared memories of events, emotions, unexpected meetings and what they like most about volunteering. The winner was determined by the highest number of “I like” marks under the post, he was awarded a prize from “Mosvolonter”. The winners and participants of the competition were also awarded with diplomas and gifts.
To date, over 600 “silver” volunteers are registered in Moscow. 90 percent of them are women. The oldest volunteer is 82 years old.
