International sports competitions will be held in Yekaterinburg in 2023.

Over 9.6 billion rubles will be allocated to the Sverdlovsk Region to co-finance the construction of sports facilities for the World Summer Universiade, which will be held in Yekaterinburg in 2023. The order on the distribution of these funds was signed by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

The money has already been provided for in the federal budget for 2021–2023. Of this, more than 8.5 billion rubles will be spent on the construction of the Water Sports Palace, the rest – on the construction of the Center for Rhythmic and Aesthetic Gymnastics.

The issue of the distribution of funding was considered and approved at a meeting of the Government on April 15. Mikhail Mishustin recalled that preparations for the World Summer Universiade in Yekaterinburg are being carried out on behalf of the President.

“This is not the first time our country has hosted international sports events. Everyone remembers the 2014 Olympics in Sochi and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Two years ago, the XXIX World Winter Universiade was held in Krasnoyarsk with great success. And in all cases, the athletes highly appreciated the level of the sports infrastructure, ”said the head of government.

According to him, more than 40 sports facilities will need to be built, reconstructed or renovated for the Universiade. “It is important to create all the necessary conditions for the participants of the Universiade and its guests,” emphasized Mikhail Mishustin.
