The organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the VI International Arctic Forum “Arctic – Territory of Dialogue” determined that the forum will be held in late March – early April 2022 in St. Petersburg, while, in connection with Russia’s chairmanship in the Arctic Council in 2021-2023 and the high relevance of the Arctic agenda, the event will be held for two years in a row – in 2022 and 2023.
“In 2021–2023, in accordance with the principle of rotation, the post of chairman of the Arctic Council is transferred to Russia. The Russian Federation is today leading in a number of areas related to the development of the Arctic. The development of the Northern Sea Route, science and technology, environmental protection, defense and security issues, the development of Arctic deposits – this is an incomplete list of those areas in which Russian specialists are working. The International Arctic Forum is another platform to talk about Russian achievements, to discuss with the international expert community topical issues of the development of the Arctic territories, the development of port infrastructure, environmental protection, and improving the quality of life of people, ”said the Chairman of the Forum Organizing Committee, Deputy Prime Minister – Plenipotentiary Representative of the President in the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev.
The Arctic agenda has always been an integral part of major multilateral events in Russia. Thematic sessions on a wide range of issues related to various aspects of the development of the Russian Arctic zone and international cooperation in 2021–2023 are integrated into the business programs of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Eastern Economic Forum, Russian Energy Week and other events.
“During the chairmanship of the Russian Federation in the Arctic Council, the forum“ Arctic – Territory of Dialogue ”is of particular practical importance in addressing key issues of the Arctic territories. The Forum traditionally gives a powerful additional impetus to the development of the region’s economy and is an important event on the international Arctic agenda. We decided to hold the event in spring, this time period is of particular importance for the indigenous peoples of the North: the end of the polar night and the beginning of the next annual cycle, ”said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President, Executive Secretary of the Forum Organizing Committee.
The forum will be organized by the Roscongress Foundation.
