An interspecific command-staff exercise has begun in the Northern Fleet, which is being conducted under the general leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov.

At the first stage of the exercise, within the framework of the practical action plan, the deployment of nuclear submarines and naval forces of the Northern Fleet into the sea began, army corps units moved to the concentration areas, the Air Force and Air Defense Army began to transfer forces to operational airfields in the Arctic and build up an air defense system in Arctic direction.

At various stages of the interspecific exercise, nuclear and diesel submarines, ships of the Kola Flotilla of diverse forces and formations of missile ships, support vessels, army corps units, aircraft, military and special equipment of the Air Force and Air Defense Army of the Northern Fleet will be involved.

Particular attention during the exercise will be paid to ensuring the safety of economic facilities of Russia in the Arctic, conducting rescue operations and providing assistance at sea in this region, as well as resolving possible crisis situations, if they arise, protecting and defending sea communications.
